How much praying do you engage in?


How much praying do you engage in? How regularly do you pray? This is the only activity in the whole world that Satan and his cohorts or agents can not engage in. Praying is our medium of conversing with the Lord God Almighty.

 Prayerlessness is a major challenge facing contemporary believers.

 Many have refused to pray as they ought to because they have become overconfident and proud. The more you pray to God, the less dependent on yourself you become. As such, the more prayer you engage in with God, the more power you are endured with.

 The less prayer you are engaged in, the less you depend on God and His support, and consequently, the more you depend on yourself and your effort. And this is a certain and sure way to ruin.

 Are you praying less after God has elevated you spiritually or physically? Are you praying less because of God blessings and successes? If your answer is yes, you need to check yourself. Pride has come in to your life. You will discover that you now have more faith in yourself to succeed by your effort than by God’s support. This is one reason God keeps a distance from the proud: He knows if He helps them achieve a feat, at the end, they will not think twice before taking His glory.

 Besides pride, another reason for prayerlessness is carelessness. In Matthew 26:41, Jesus said: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

 Also, in Mark 13:32-37 (see quotation below), the Lord emphasized the need to watch. In these days, you cannot afford to be careless; you cannot afford to be cold; you cannot afford to be lukewarm; and you cannot to be carefree.

 Praying goes along with watching. You cannot pray effectively if you fail to watch as well. If you watch effectively, it will help to give your prayers direction. You will know what trending issues to take before God. You will have some burdens in the place of prayer that will only be lifted after you have prayed through. Similarly, if you watch as you should, you will be able to relate events that are happening around you with the second coming of Jesus Christ. If you are keeping watch, you will be on your guard and on your toes. If you watch, you cannot be asleep. Beloved, this is not the time to sleep but the time to be spiritually awake, alert and prepared. This is the time to pray about virtually everything that comes across your path. It is a time to wholly depend on God, who knows the way, to show us the way in the midst of growing confusion and evil spreading around the world. Wake up! Fast more! Watch more! May the Lord guide you in Jesus’ Name.

 Prayer Point:

 Father, please silence everything in me that is working against me having an effective prayer life.

 Mark 13:32-37 - 32 "No one knows about that day or hour. Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows. 33 "Keep watch! Stay awake! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It's like a man going away. He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge. Each one is given a task to do. He tells the one at the door to keep watch. 35 "So keep watch! You do not know when the owner of the house will come back. It may be in the evening or at midnight. It may be when the rooster crows or at dawn. 36 He may come suddenly. So do not let him find you sleeping. 37 "What I say to you, I say to everyone. 'Watch!' "

This is the last days of the year and appropriate time to do a stocktaking of the year to know if indeed you have succeeded or not. What goals did you set at the beginning of the year? Are you righteous? What makes a person righteous? Man has always strived to be righteous. To attain this, we strive to be religious; strive to be good; strive to do right; etc. However, man is inherently evil from the womb. Why are you doing what you are doing? Is it for the financial reward or for the love of it? Reward is the opium or energy that propels us to desire or go for or engage in any activity. What are you doing? What is your expected reward? Is it instant reward you are after or time tested reward? For every endeavour, there is a fundamental reward we are all after with a subset of broken down or auxiliary reward. Whatever the reward that drives us in all our endeavours, it is known throughtout the ages that fleeting or instant reward is fraught with high risk and certainly not lasting. However, a time-tested reward outlook is or will be borne out of patience which is a product of proven series of experience. Who do you belong to and why that matters?

What have we that we were not given? What have you that you were not given? 1 Cor 4:7 - "For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive?... " This is really a true saying. Do you have any part to play in your existence? Did you have any part to play at deciding your gender - male or female? Job 2:10 says "For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being." (NLT) Since non of us have, why do we still behave as if we own and control everything including our own very lives. We ought to fully internalise this and realise this and allow the Lord to guide and direct our lives, our likes and dislikes, our emotions, our temperament, our hopes and aspirations and how we go about achieving these hopes and aspirations. We all have these aspirations in life but let the God that put these aspirations there guide and direct its actualisation. For, for His pleasure alone should we exist and live.
