Who do you belong to and why that matters?

Image
What have we that we were not given? What have you that you were not given? 1 Cor 4:7 - "For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive?... " This is really a true saying. Do you have any part to play in your existence? Did you have any part to play at deciding your gender - male or female? Job 2:10 says "For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being." (NLT) Since non of us have, why do we still behave as if we own and control everything including our own very lives. We ought to fully internalise this and realise this and allow the Lord to guide and direct our lives, our likes and dislikes, our emotions, our temperament, our hopes and aspirations and how we go about achieving these hopes and aspirations. We all have these aspirations in life but let the God that put these aspirations there guide and direct its actualisation. For, for His pleasure alone should we exist and live....

Temple – Whose are you?

Image
Temple – Whose are you? Do you have any idea how you came about apart from the fact that you are a product of a man and a woman’s seed? Why are you a man or woman? You simply just know you are you. As a result, what gives you the power to now decide you are not fit for this or that? What gives you power to decide that you weren’t supposed to be you but another’s? We know that as long as it was not your decision to manufacture a product, you have no part to play in what to use it for or how to use the product. You simply use it for its purpose and follow its manual on how to use it. The product will only serve you well when you use it according to its manual. Same with man. For no other foundation can any man lay except that has been laid already which is Christ Jesus. Man, whether you know it or not, whether you agree or not, God made you – Gen 1:27 – “ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them ”. The creator of heav...

What is your Wealth Worth?

Image
Do you know or realise that nothing you have can add any real and eternal value to you? Do you even know everything you claim to have does not really belong to you? John 3:27 - " A person can receive only what God gives him from heaven".  Indeed, cars, houses, jewels, and various conveniences of this life are good but that is as far as they do not constitute an impediment to the end goal of your life. As a business man, it is certainly a bad business to sacrifice eternal life of joy and riches unimaginable for a mere 100 years in this life. No matter how wonderful that 100 years might be, it does not sound good and business like to trade that for eternal suffering. Isaiah 2:19 shows and depicts to us how at the end of time, people will use their same hands to discard all that they have laboured, killed and lied to acquire when faced with eternal judgement. This emphasizes the worthlessness and uselessness of these worldly acquisitions and values. The Lord gave us an exa...

4 Signs of True Contentment

Image
As fallen men, even redeemed fallen men, we will never be entirely content in this life. Our hearts are too prone to wander, far too apt to flirt with idolatry, for us to be completely content in Christ. As Calvin famously put it, the human heart manufactures idols day and night every day. Still, we pray for contentment and, like Paul in Philippians 4:11, we seek to learn the secret to contentment in Christ. If we are content in Christ, what shape will our lives begin to take? What is the contented heart drawn to? When my contentment is in Christ, then four things ought to be true of me. I will exhibit a deeper love for God’s Word . Because my contentment is in Him, I will want to know Him more. We know Him more through His Word. Contentment is a plant that must be tended daily, as Spurgeon said in his inimitable style: “Now, contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated. It will not grow in us by nature; it is the new nature alone t...

Are You on Your Own?

Image
Acts 13:3 tells us of how Christians ought to arrange their steps prior to setting out on any assignments, projects, businesses, work or callings even by God Himself. We see how the Christians fasted and prayed before setting out. This is because they recognised that without The Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit empowerment, victory and success in their endeavour will certainly not be achieved. Our Lord Jesus emphasised this in John 15:5 that without Him, we can do nothing. Absolutely nothing. But the Lord promised us in John 16:13-15 that the Holy Spirit will be sent to guide us in  all  truth. This is truth of not the spiritual only, but of the entire activities of man in this world.  All truth.  From experience, we all know that setting out on anything on our own is fraught with so many uncertainties and dangers. But when we learn to depend and trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we escape these dangers and uncertainties thus leading to fruitful effort w...

While returning he met with an accident and lost his eyesight. However their married life continued as usual. But as days passed she lost her beauty gradually. Blind husband did not know this and there was not any difference in their married life. He continued to love her and she also loved him very much. One day she died. Her death brought him great sorrow. He finished all her last rites and wanted to leave that town. A man from behind called and said, now how will you be able to walk all alone? All these days your wife used to help you. He replied, I am not blind. I was acting, because if she knew l could see her ugliness it would have pained her more than her disease. So I pretended to be blind. She was a very good wife. I only wanted to keep her happy. MORAL :- *Some times it is go...

Facing Adversity and Being in God’s Will

Saul told his son Jonathan and all the attendants to kill David. 1 Samuel 19:1 David was minding his own business one day, tending sheep, when God called him to be a king. Talk about a God moment. He didn’t ask to be king, but God said he was the one. He turned out to be a great king. Imagine that? God made a good pick! David had a heart modeled after God’s, according to the Bible. So, since God had chosen to bless David in such a way, why do we later find Saul trying to kill David? In fact, for some time Saul chased David. David hid out, all alone, which is the setting we find him in during the writings of many of the Psalms. David was God’s choice for king and yet he was placed in incredible adversity. What does this tell us? I think it says to me that sometimes God’s will for us will find us in the middle of trials in life. That’s right. His will for our lives. More importantly, I am learning that I cannot determine whether I am in God’s will based on whether or ...
