Are you my brother?

Image
Years ago in the Philippines, I heard a story of a man who parked his car in his office complex in downtown Manila. There was a street boy nearby and to pick up some money, the boy asked if he could watch (guard) the man’s car while he was in the office.  Several hours later, when the man came back to get his nice Mercedes, he paid the boy some loose change and, as he was getting in his car, the little street boy said, “Mister, you sure have a nice car.”  The man was quite surprised that this boy had even spoken to him and said, “Well, thank you.” Then the little boy said, “Where did you get your car? Did somebody give it to you?” The man replied, “Well yes, somebody did gave it to me.  My brother gave it to me.” As he continued to get in the car, he expected the boy to say something like, “Oh, I wish I had a brother who would give me a nice car.” Instead, he heard the little boy say, “Your brother gave it to you? I wish I could be a brother like that. The man wa...

God - The Consuming Fire

Image
God called Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's sons - Exo 24:1 - " Now He said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu...", but in Lev 10:1-2 - "Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD ", God killed them for offering strange and abominable fire before the LORD (Num 3:4). As priest or servant of the Lord, Num 3:3-4 we are to be above aboard. Because God has used us for a miracle or because of past achievements, we should never be so familiar or too familiar to take Him or His instructions for granted. Taking His instructions or His ordinance with levity or for granted is akin to offering strange fire before God, which is tantamount to offending or grieving the Holy Spirit. Jesus said sin against the Holy Spirit will not b...

Loved and Saved by Grace - 1

Image
A guy once told me, sir, you don't know what I have done in the past, how I have failed my family and God many times over. Well, there is one thing that the Lord knows before you. I can safely guess that you're not as old as 2,000 years. And if that is so, the Lord already provided for your forgiveness as it is stated in Romans 5:8 that while you were yet lost, while you were yet a sinner, Jesus died for you, for me, for every living human, born and yet unborn. His love knows no bound. It is also written that He knew us all while we were yet in our mother's womb and He ordained us for Himself. Brother and sister, the Lord already, through His love, made a way of escape for us all from destruction and from bondage to sin, sickness, failure, through His love, mercy and grace (Roman 11:30). Is Your Past Holding You Down?

Image
I was at a relative's event some years back and witnessed the preparation of a barbecue meat from slaughtering. It certainly took a couple of hours. How long do you think it will take Abraham and Sarah to prepare the animal for their guest that suddenly came to them (Gen 18:1-8)? This visit was sudden to them. They were not prepared for the visit at all. So, they had to prepare a calf and cakes for the visitors. This preparation certainly took at least an hour of running here and there leaving the visitors alone. Abraham was probably dropping in on the visitors intermittently to assure them of his coming with the meal soon. The Lord waited for this long very patiently and when the meal was served, ate then blessed Abraham and Sarah. How long do you think you have been unprepared for God's calling on you? How long do think you've been away from God? How long do you think you've stayed away and making God angry at you and most likely will not forgive you?...

I was too good to know I was not good

Image
I was a well brought kid. Never smoked, never drank, never had a girlfriend, never outspoken, never disobedient, never unruly, studious, etc. If I continue, you will think this is certainly untrue.  In fact, there are people better than me, yet, this is very true. On the other side of the coin, there are those that are exactly the opposite of what I just painted above in every way. Drugs, sexual adventurism, in and out of jail severally, alcoholism, disobedient etc. I was so good and even so humble and righteous that I never looked down on those that have missed the way.  Above all, I knew certainly, that I was going to heaven. One day, while at work, a girl asked, are you sure you're going to heaven? Of course I said yes.  However, I started asking myself if I was sure or not. Through out my life and until then, I was just too good to know I wasn't good at all. That, it is not at all your goodness or the extent of your goodness. Neither is it your badness o...

Usefulness of the Word

Image
Usefulness of the Word I was chatting with my mentee a few days ago and the following conversation occurred: Mentee: ...but sometimes the Bible just look like a storybook especially the old testament. Me: It could be. That's why you need to attend Bible study for explanation of its effect on your life, for example, tell me the last one you read and what you think of it. Mentee:  I read Ecclesiastes. You know vanity upon vanity. Me: Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon and one of it's purpose it's too show the utter fallacy of things that are earthly pursuits and to show that the final conclusion of the whole of life is to fear God, and keep His commandments. See Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. Mentee:  Seriously, I started thinking of all my goals. All are nothing but earthly ambitions. Me: If your goals do not align with God's plan for your life, it will just be struggle all the way. Mentee:  Then how do I know which is God's plan for my life? Its just comp...

Key to Successful Living

Image
Key to Successful Living It's key to acquire knowledge. It's a good key to put the knowledge into use, and it's better key to put it into use rightly and at the right time. How will we know the right time? We have depended on experience coupled with knowledge acquired to be able to judge when the time is right. We have also depended on advice to judge the right time. While all these parameters are good, at the end of the day and after so many successes, failures, joy at being right, sadness when at failure, I finally discovered the secret to knowing how to make use of the knowledge and knowing the right timing. I have spent over 25 years on what I call trial and experimentation. Man's life is too short to be spent on experimentation. The worse part is that we spend the time we had the dynamic strength and energy on experimentation and the latter time of subdued strength to realise the lost and try to catch up.  To avoid that waste of time, we need to ha...
