Is Your Past Holding You Down?


I was at a relative's event some years back and witnessed the preparation of a barbecue meat from slaughtering. It certainly took a couple of hours. How long do you think it will take Abraham and Sarah to prepare the animal for their guest that suddenly came to them (Gen 18:1-8)? This visit was sudden to them. They were not prepared for the visit at all. So, they had to prepare a calf and cakes for the visitors.

This preparation certainly took at least an hour of running here and there leaving the visitors alone. Abraham was probably dropping in on the visitors intermittently to assure them of his coming with the meal soon.

The Lord waited for this long very patiently and when the meal was served, ate then blessed Abraham and Sarah.

How long do you think you have been unprepared for God's calling on you? How long do think you've been away from God? How long do you think you've stayed away and making God angry at you and most likely will not forgive you? Do you think you're now too old to be useful for God, your community, your family, your country? 

We can see from Abraham's and Sarah's lives, that as long as you're still alive, God is patient and still expects you to be useful. He is still expecting you to be fruitful, and He is certainly expecting and also desire to bless you.

Your past failures or past sins or past mistakes will not hinder God from blessing you as long as you're still diligent. Sarah and Abraham were diligent to prepare the meal. Yes, Sarah doubted and lied (Gen 18:12 & 15), God was merciful and still is merciful to ignore your past and bless your future. God's love and mercy know no bound. He knows your past as He said to Sarah in Gen 18:15 - "No, but you did lied!", yet He really does not look to look your past neither does He want you to (Philippians 3:13 - "Brothers and sisters, I don't consider that I have taken hold of it yet. But here is the one thing I do. I forget what is behind me. I push hard toward what is ahead of me.").

You know what, God only sees good, excellence, success, promotion, victory, peace, love, and every that of good report, in you and your future. Call to Him. He is more than willing to take you their.

This is the last days of the year and appropriate time to do a stocktaking of the year to know if indeed you have succeeded or not. What goals did you set at the beginning of the year? To what extent did you get at fulfilling these goals? Whether you succeeded or not or did you get to achieve a considerable level or not? This is my witty God...Could you have imagined it?

Are you righteous? What makes a person righteous? Man has always strived to be righteous. To attain this, we strive to be religious; strive to be good; strive to do right; etc. However, man is inherently evil from the womb. Who Do You Really Seek?

Why are you doing what you are doing? Is it for the financial reward or for the love of it? Reward is the opium or energy that propels us to desire or go for or engage in any activity. What are you doing? What is your expected reward? Is it instant reward you are after or time tested reward? For every endeavour, there is a fundamental reward we are all after with a subset of broken down or auxiliary reward. Whatever the reward that drives us in all our endeavours, it is known throughtout the ages that fleeting or instant reward is fraught with high risk and certainly not lasting. However, a time-tested reward outlook is or will be borne out of patience which is a product of proven series of experience. Who do you belong to and why that matters?

What have we that we were not given? What have you that you were not given? 1 Cor 4:7 - "For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive?... " This is really a true saying. Do you have any part to play in your existence? Did you have any part to play at deciding your gender - male or female? Job 2:10 says "For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being." (NLT) Since non of us have, why do we still behave as if we own and control everything including our own very lives. We ought to fully internalise this and realise this and allow the Lord to guide and direct our lives, our likes and dislikes, our emotions, our temperament, our hopes and aspirations and how we go about achieving these hopes and aspirations. We all have these aspirations in life but let the God that put these aspirations there guide and direct its actualisation. For, for His pleasure alone should we exist and live.
